A day in the life....

So, the other day I was wondering, "what in the world has happened to blogging lately?" "Why do I seem to struggle so much with finding the time?" So, for a day, I decided to jot down what I did. Then it clicked. :-)

While this particular day was a bit busier than most, it's a fairly good representation of my life. I've got many, many things in my head, heart, and camera that are begging to make their way onto here, and I'm hoping for a good chunk of time soon to make that happen. Until then, maybe this will give you a little understanding. :-)

6:30-6:40 - The wiggling alarm clock next to me rouses me from my slumber. I nurse Leana in bed before getting up to make breakfast.

6:40-7:00 - Breakfast is under way. Pancakes, Greek Yogurt and Berries, and a smoothie for Joel are on the menu this morning.

7:00-7:30 - We sit down and eat, trying to keep Leana entertained with dabs of peanut butter on the roof of her mouth and little pieces of pancake. She steals little nibbles of my yogurt and berries. Joel uses this time for family devotions as well before he finished getting ready for his work day. We are reading through the Gospels right now, and really treasure this time together in the morning.

7:30-7:50 - Joel carts Leana around for awhile while I clean the kitchen. The dishwasher was only partially full this morning which made for a quicker job, but for some reason, I still had lots of hand washing to do. Joel leaves at 7:45. The last counter was wiped and the dishwasher started at 7:50. I decide to wipe and put the dishes away later, as Leana was at the end of her endurance by then.

7:50-8:05 - I change Leana's diaper, dress her for the day, throw my exercise clothes on, and my hair in a pony.

8:05-9:00 - Leana goes down for her first nap, and I tackle one of Jillian Michael's workout DVD's.

9:00 - I'm just finishing and I hear Leana crying. Whoops - an hour earlier than she's supposed to be up!

9:10-9:30 - After a nurse and cuddle she falls back asleep, and I make myself a post-workout protein shake. I sip on this while working on Memverse and quickly check Facebook when I am finished.

9:30-9:40 - Shower time!

9:40-9:55 - All fresh for the day, I quickly grind beans and get a cup of Americano brewing in the espresso machine Joel just got me. While that is being made, I quickly put a few of the dishes away.

9:55-10:45 - Cup of coffee in hand, I snuggle down in the living room with my Bible and journal. I also allow an indulgence in a bit of homemade, naturally sweetened chocolate. I'm using McCheyne's Bible Reading Plan out of the ESV, and also doing a verse by verse, SLOW, study on Isaiah. My honey just fulfilled a three-year dream of mine, and we bought the Logos Bible Software a few weeks ago that I use quite a bit. I also read a couple pages out of R.A. Torrey's "A Power Filled Life." God speaks to me through all of my reading, impressing on my heart the need to have MY will surrendered to HIS will, and that he has a purpose and plan for my day. Jesus came, "not to do his own will, but the will of his father."

10:45-11:00 - I catch up on a few blogs and articles waiting in my inbox before I hit housework.

11:00-11:15 - I throw my now-dry hair up into a messy bun and then get Leana up from her nap. She sits in the rocking chair and watches while I tidy our bathroom and bedroom.

11:15-11:30 - Leana looks at books while I finish putting the dishes away and empty the dishwasher.

11:30-12:00 - I get something ready for the mail, put Leana in a jacket and in the stroller and head off to the PO to mail it. Sometimes I wish our mailbox was right at the end of our driveway like I grew up, and at other times, I appreciate the excuse to make the 5 minute walk through town. Except in the winter, that is.... :-)

12:00-12:10 - Back from the PO. Grabbed a quick lunch of a pita/turkey sandwich, and checked e-mail.

12:10-12:30 - Leana is getting fussy and I realize that she is hungry too! I nursed her, and also mashed a banana, mixed it with yogurt, and fed her. I also took a few minutes and quickly straigtened a closet and watered my plants.

12:30-12:50 - Washing the living room floor was next on my list. A friend stopped by to drop some music off in the middle, and we visited a bit while I finished up.

12:50-1:30 - My first piano student of the day shows up. His lesson went great!

1:30-1:45 - Leana badly needed a change by this time, so we went off to do that. I was also able to quickly dust the living room and vacuum the area rug.

1:45-2:00 - A bit of paperwork gets done, along with planning supper. Since we're babysitting two kids tonight, I decide on something kid friendly. :-)

2:00-2:30 - Leana goes down for her second nap, and I work on supper. I make the sauce for homemade baked mac'n'cheese while listening to a "Revive our Hearts" podcast while I work.

2:30-3:00 - I've been behind on housework, and am determined to catch up today. In the next 30 minutes, the entryway gets swept and washed, and hallway swept and washed, and the microwave wiped down. Such a good feeling!

3:00-3:30 - More supper preps. I toss together a lettuce, strawberry salad, make a simple dressing, and get some ingredients ready for chocolate malted cookies. I think I'll have to bake these later.

3:30-4:30 - Two more piano students arrive. They are my last for the day, and their lessons go great! It's so much fun to teach motivated students!

4:30-5:20 - Leana is up by now, and I work on baking the cookies and finishing supper.  I alternate between entertaining her in the Bumbo on the counter, and cooking with her on my hip. She isn't the most content, so it was a bit of a challenge!

5:20-5:35 - Joel is home, and takes over Leana while I finish last minute supper things and a batch of dishes.

5:35-5:45 - The kitchen is clean, and we wait for the children to arrive. I take a much need 10 minute break on the couch!

5:45-6:45 - The two children arrive, and I put food on the table. We sit down to eat a little before 6:00. The cookies were a smashing success, and the Macaroni not so much…. I pencil in a star by one recipe, and an X by the other!

6:45-7:20 - The hotdogs, mac'n'cheese, strawberry salad, and cookies are eaten, sticky fingers are cleaned, and I tackle the kitchen. Thankfully, Joel does not need a lunch box packed for tomorrow because I am exhausted!

7:20 - The last dish is wiped, the floor swept, and the kitchen put back in order. Time to relax! The rest of the evening is spent with the children - reading, coloring pictures, playing games, and keeping Leana entertained. She goes to bed about 9:00, and the children are picked up by their parent's about 9:30.

10:00 - Bedtime for us! I crash, exhausted into bed, but with a feeling of satisfaction. Busy days have a way of doing that! Despite my tiredness, my heart is filled with gratefulness for all the blessings I've been given. I often tell Joel that I couldn't dream up a happier life. God has given us SO many things to be thankful for, and it's with those thoughts on my heart that I slip into sleep....

Nine Months

A year ago I was celebrating the reality of new life inside me. Nine months of carrying Leana, and nine months having her with us makes this Mother's Day a special one!

Life has been crazy full lately, but I've got a lot of blog posts floating around in my head. Hopefully an opportunity to post more will come soon!
